Lock picking as a hobby
Many people around the world pick locks for fun. It is a ton of fun. It’s called LockSport! There are many groups and associations that meet regularly together and practice their skills. Some of these hobbyists turn their fun into money. Some will get a job consulting for lock companies, some become locksmiths, and some go on to do “Penetration Testing” for government agencies or fortune 500 companies!
The goal of lock sport is to teach people about physical security. Teach people how things work, what they do and dont do. As people learn to manipulate security systems, they pass these vulnerabilities on to the manufacturers so they can consider these in their new designs to eliminate them in future models. Lock sport was intended to provide testing and feedback to the makers of security systems and to educate the public on the products that they buy and use.
Unfortunately, most lock pickers just show people how to break into stuff, and never actually teach people what they can do to better protect themselves and their property. Most lock pickers demonstrate the weakness of a lock, but then do not give you an alternative. They never tell you what other product options there are. They don’t show you how to fix the issue. They simply show you that the lock can be breached, and state that the lock is junk.
Here we use lock sport to find and expose the weaknesses, and then solve the problem is makes for our security. We find and recommend better alternative locks, or show you what you need to do to make that lock system more secure and work for you.
We all know nothing is perfect, and there are always problems. What you really need is answers, and that is what we do here with lock sport.
